MTV just recently created a new cable channel called M2. It is basically an extention of MTV, but it is supposed to offer more videos and a few newer shows that cannot be found on the original channel. It was my impression that the new channel was created in response to all the MTV viewer's complaints about the lack of airtime given to strictly showing videos. MTV seems to be full of talk shows, game shows, and news specials rather than actual videos, which is what attracted fans to the channel in the first place. If this alternative channel can provide viewers the MTV that they always wanted then I think it will be a successful endeavor. However, by starting out with The Jenny McCarthy Show and The Dennis Rodman show already in the line up it makes me question the intentions of the channel after all. Since M2 is attempting to give the viewers what they want, an easy way to accomplish this would be to allow them to do just that. They could create a request line, or even a countdown of the top requested videos. M2 could be MTV's chance to serve the new generation like they planned to in the beginning. Since the channel is so new, it is difficult to predict where it is headed, but hopefully they will not get off track like the original MTV seemed to.
